Just before the close of last year, John Obidi, a thought leader in Personal Development and Online Marketing, released a video in which he explained crucial steps that you need to take in order to position your brand for international recognition, among which is Book Writing.

According to John Obidi, “I realized that on this (International) level, books are the new complimentary cards. So, instead of handing out a card, you hand out a free copy of your book to an influencer or somebody you want to connect with. It brands you in their eyes as an author and an authority in that field which you claim.”

Book writing is one of the most significant ways to establish visibility and credibility at the same time. As a Speaker, your audience wants to read you and know that you’ve got the stuff they need before they listen to you. So, rather than looking for platforms, write a book and make it your first major platform! As a consultant, they want to know that you’ve solved problems similar to theirs before they engage you. As an expert, they want to know that you know your onions before they reach out to you.

At an international level, you can’t be explaining what you know or what you’ve done to people. There is no time for that. And they have never known you at all because they have not been around your local circle of influence. Your business card is not even enough. The best bet is to package yourself – your wealth of experience, ideas and results – in a book that solves some kind of problem, and hand it over to them. The cost of the book is not the issue here – the potential returns through business engagement far outweighs that – getting the connection is. Remember, you are interacting with people who have bigger purchasing power than where you are coming from.

And as they are impressed by the depth of practical knowledge shared in your book, they are not only willing to engage you, but also to recommend you to others. That is free business evangelism – one of the most effective forms of marketing today – launching you into the global economy to scale up your impact and revenue exponentially.
