EVOLVE: #WarAgainstFear (Part 2)
Previously, I have mentioned that fear is disempowering and self-limiting; hence, we proceeded to examine our fears in order to deal with them one at a time as we prepare for accelerated progress in the second half of 2019.
Here are some other fears that might be limiting you:
MEGALOPHOBIA - fear of large things: If you are afraid of achieving great things, you just can’t conceive them not to talk of achieving them in reality. You will only think small, use small benchmarks, and limit your growth.
MICROPHOBIA - fear of small things: There are hardly any big things that start big. Based on natural principles, things start small and then grow bigger through the investment of time, energy and other resources. If you fear small things, you might hardly start anything authentic and you might be too afraid to associate with the small things in your life that need to grow.
PHILOPHOBIA - fear of love: Sounds funny, right? But truly speaking, there are many people who find it difficult to give or accept love. Equally, they might find it difficult to give or receive honour. And such fears often hinder them from bonding healthily with others.
SCOLIONOPHOBIA - fear of school: What comes to mind when you think of school? Memories of punishment for every little failure you encountered in your growing years? Or the unnecessary restrictions imposed on you physically and intellectually that poisoned your creativity to slow death. Whichever thought like these you entertain might be preventing you from furthering your education to qualify yourself for better opportunities.
SOCIOPHOBIA - fear of social evaluation: People will always have their say, but you can have your way if you want to. However, if you always fear what they might say, you will keep putting yourself at the mercy of the ruthless public and you will never take a step forward. The only way to silence naysayers is to succeed resoundingly. Again, that requires great courage.
TACHOPHOBIA - fear of speed: How fast can you go if you fear speed? Not just about moving cars, trains and bikes, but your personal growth and progress towards your goals. Avoiding speed only limits you from gaining speed!
So, how do you conquer your fear and break out of its disempowering orbit?
First, you need to arm yourself with KNOWLEDGE. Knowing precedes growing. What you don’t know, you can hardly change. Knowledge helps you to become aware of your position and gain insight on how to move from there to where you ought to be.
Some knowledge come by information while some others come by observation and meditation. Now, you’ve gotten information on different kind of fears that could be limiting. Take time to reflect and assess yourself sincerely in order to become more self-aware.
Second, you need to take RESPONSIBILITY. It is not enough to know, you have to act on what you know. Knowledge without action feeds your ego while keeping you in bondage. That is a worse problem!
To take responsibility, you need COURAGE to act in spite of your fear. Fact is, sometimes, you just have to do it afraid in order to break out and do so consistently in order to break through and break free.
Growing up, I had to overcome the fear of public opinion. Doing that helped me to try new things and develop many of my gifts. I learnt to read well, write calligraphically, speak fluently and charismatically in public, initiate relationships with people, play the keyboard, compose songs, sing sweetly, play football skillfully, think critically and creatively to solve problems, write articles and poetry, as well as transfer knowledge and skills to others excellently.
But it all began with damning the negative vibes from what other people said no matter how terrible I performed initially. And when others queried themselves saying, “Why me?” I reversed the question in my big head: “Why not me?” I challenge you to do the same today.
Remember, for every fear you conquer, you discover and evolve into a new you and you step into a higher realm to release your potentials for greatness.
Welcome to a new you,
