TO MY NEW NCCF FAMILY MEMBERS (2)
Beloved Jesus Corper,
Gracious greetings to you
In the first part of my epistle series to you, I warmly welcomed you to NCCF as God’s family. However, in order to enjoy this family, it is important for you to know that NCCF is a NON-DENOMINATIONAL and INTERDENOMINATIONAL fellowship.
Please take note of the two descriptive adjectives used as well as the sequence of their use. NCCF is NON-DENOMINATIONAL Fellowship because it is founded on no Church or Ministerial denomination; however, as an INTERDENOMINATIONAL Fellowship, it accommodates all denominations.
In order to help you
understand these things well, let me do a quick review of how NCCF started,
though you might even have gotten some information on this already.
In the 1930s, a veteran missionary, Pa S. G. Elton, came to Nigeria to break new grounds; and while labouring for the gospel, he prophesied that the Federal Government of Nigeria will one day begin to pay her youths to take the gospel to the nooks and crannies of the nation.
The prophecy tarried for a while but came into fulfilment in 1973 when, in order to reunite Nigeria after the civil war, the then Head of States, General Yakubu Gowon, established the NYSC scheme and Christian youths were sent to various states to serve their fatherland.
During the course of their service, a number of Christian Corps members began meeting together in various states for fellowship. At that time, we had State Christian Corpers Fellowships spread across the nation until they came together under a national body; hence, the formation of the Nigeria Christian Corpers’ Fellowship.
For over three decades, NCCF has been playing vital roles in nation-building as well as spreading of the gospel across Nigeria. Through the efforts of her members, many souls have been saved, churches have been planted and communities have been developed. I have decided to summarize her achievements briefly, so that I will not overwhelm you with a holy boast. But the fact is that there is much more than you could have ever imagined hitherto.
For example, the Calvary Ministries, popularly known as CAPRO, was founded by radical Jesus Corpers, who defied the odds to propagate the gospel beginning from an Emir’s palace. Today, CAPRO is one of the leading Missionary organizations in Africa! Currently, one of our state chapters have an established fellowship that caters for Lepers. There are also schools instituted by Jesus Corpers. These are just a few of our remarkable feats.
It is important for you to know these things because your service year is not a playing time. It is rather an opportunity to sign your name into heaven’s Hall of Faith like many others have done through sacrificial labours. This is a time for God to work on you, in you and through you.
So more than welcoming you, I therefore congratulate you in anticipation of your exploit-filled service year.
Shalom.
Warm
regards,
Bright
